Egyptian football team wins African Cup for the 3rd time
Egypt won the African Cup of Nations for the third time in a row after beating Ghana 1-0 in the Angolan capital, Luanda.
Egypt’s goal was scored by substitute Mohammad Naji, better known as “Gedo” for the team’s historic record victory Sunday.
Gedo, who scored in the last minutes of the match, was also named the tournament’s best scorer with five goals, all scored after coming from the bench.
The “best coach” title went to the Egyptian team’s coach, Hassan Shahata, the team’s goalkeeper Esam Al-Hadhary was named the best goalkeeper, while Egypt’s captain Ahmad Hassan was named, best player.
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has received Egypt’s national football team that won the African Cup of Nations Sunday evening in Angola.
At the reception, Mubarak granted medals of honour to the national football team.
Mubarak also noted that the team had displayed the noble spirit of the Egyptian people and their awareness of the true significance of sportsmanship as a bridge to brotherhood and friendship between nations.
